Our mission is to enable artists to showcase their exceptional work in the form of art books, without any financial constraints. We believe that every artist deserves the opportunity to share their talent with the public, and we are committed to making this happen.
We take charge of every stage of the publishing process, from project launch to completion, ensuring that the art book is produced to the highest standards and reflects the artist's original vision.

Wagner Work Grant

We’re excited to announce the Printed Matter Publisher Work Grant, a new annual cycle of unrestricted grants available to artists’ book publishers, made possible with the generous support of Wagner Foundation.

The program offers funding to independent presses with a history of artists’ book publishing, acknowledging awardees’ accomplishments in past work and providing the capacity-building funds to enable future book projects and publisher sustainability. In 2024, three unrestricted grants of $10,000 USD will be awarded to three independent artists’ book publishers. Printed Matter will also extend a featured exhibitor presence at a forthcoming Printed Matter’s NY or LA Art Book Fair to selected presses.

Open Call – Apparitions

An open call on the theme of ‘apparitions’, traces, spectres, visitants, vestiges, reoccurrences, memories, re-visions.

We are looking for text and visual material [creative and critical writings, photography, artworks, poetry, projects, documents, research] that call upon the theme of ‘apparitions’ conceptually and/or aesthetically. Selected submissions will be collected into a print publication.

An apparition can be described as an unusual or unexpected sight, the act of becoming visible, something you believe, imagine or dream you see, the appearance of a star or comet after being obscured, an encounter with the ghostlike, the phantasmal, the supernatural.
