We live within a grid of default grammars—how emotions circulate, how bodies function, how images are interpreted, how technology operates, and how narratives unfold. These rules form the grammar of the contemporary world—a matrix of rhythms, orders, and perceptions. Yet, this system sometimes breaks down. Sensors fail, timelines blur, readings collapse. And in these moments of collapse, meaning doesn’t disappear—it multiplies, mutates, and opens toward the unknown.

July Open Call: Animalia

Our July Open Call, “Animalia," has been created by our 34 Gallery Art Advisor Lawrence W. Lee to generate discussion on emotions that often defy words. Previous Winners can be found on the Open Calls page of our website. Our initiative aims to channel the power of art to explore monthly mental health themes through art therapy.  This month, we are particularly interested in works by artists who reduce mental health distress through self-care with the assistance of pets, guide/therapy animals and the natural world.

Open Call: Goldstücke 2025 – Light Art Festival in Gelsenkirchen

From 2 to 5 October 2025, the Buer district city centre in Gelsenkirchen will once again be transformed into an atmospheric stage for artistic light interventions. We invite individual artists and interdisciplinary teams to submit new concepts or existing light artworks that can be well adapted to the urban environment.

This year’s edition follows the theme “Active Positive,” inspired by architect Oskar Hansen’s concept of “Open Form.” We wish to promote a shared, optimistic engagement with our built environment, encouraging participation and dialogue through light art.

BIDFF #11 OPEN CALL: Short Dance Films

Submissions for the 11th edition of Bucharest International Dance Film Festival are now open! Filmmakers, dance artists, animators, visual artists and digital art makers are invited to submit their works for the International Short Film Competition of the festival set to take place between September 11–14, 2025, under the theme “Keep Calm and Keep On Moving”. For the first time, BIDFF is also looking for VR experiences that use movement as their main language or the body as their main subject.
