NYC4PA CALL FOR ENTRY - LUMINOSITY

Photography is all about light – its presence as well as its absence. There is an iconic photograph of Grand Central Station with streams of sunlight filling the airspace as it reflects off dust particles in the air. For photographers the time of day an image is captured can be as important as the selection of the subject itself.  What may be nothing more than a snapshot at one time of day, becomes an impactful image at another.  Strategically placed lighting is critical in creating great portraits and late afternoon is a world of shadow and light that warms everything it touches.

Nude Geographies

NUDE GEOGRAPHIES (an international juried photo exhibition) The nude form has been portrayed in art throughout history, from the classical era to the enlightenment and the modern era. The nude figure in western art–specifically in photography–has expressed ideals of female and male beauty along with other human qualities including life, energy, and an array of complicated human emotions.

Guest Room: Daniel Boetker-Smith

Guest Room aims to spark collaboration. Daniel Boetker-Smith, Director of the Australian Centre for Contemporary Photography, has decided to collaborate with photo editor, curator, and writer Tanvi Mishra, who has recently curated the Louis Roederer Discovery Award for the 2023 edition of Rencontres d'Arles. Together, they have developed the following framework for your submissions: "(make) belief".

"We would like to look at submissions that explore the gap in meaning-making within the image(s) – when we make photographs, what constructions do we deploy? When we piece stories together, what are the slippages?
Despite photography’s historically contentious relationship with evidence, we find the medium continuing to be used to foreground various ‘truths’.
