Call for Art - Transition of Power: 2021

13FOREST Gallery has marked the past two presidential inaugurations with an exhibition titled Transition of Power. The goal of the exhibition is to highlight a diversity of artistic responses to the turnover of political power in the American government. Following the most contentious presidential election in recent history, we are once again turning to artists to provide perspective on the transition from the Trump administration to the Biden administration. We are looking for work that addresses the breadth of political issues that arose during the Trump presidency, and especially the historic events of 2020, from the Black Lives Matter movement to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Issue 1

For our first issue, we will be looking for rich, atmospheric fiction, non-fiction, poetry and visual artwork about the sea which will captivate our readers’ imagination. Possible themes include, but are not limited to:

  • Sea creatures, mythology and weird tales
  • Storms and shipwrecks
  • Dangers of the deep
  • Voyages of discovery
  • The call of the sea
  • Surprising and forgotten history

We are looking for photography, illustrations and drawings of high artistic standards which are in keeping with our style and compliment the literary side, so please read our requirements for both.

You may submit no more than three images at once. We cannot guarantee all will be used if successful.

Call for Applicants: Mark DeGarmo Dance's Virtual Salon Performance Series

Mark DeGarmo Dance is now accepting applications from performers, choreographers and dancers to participate in its annual Virtual Salon Performance Series: a showcase of original artistic works-in-progress with a facilitated audience response portion held on Zoom.

Each performer will have the opportunity to present up to 10 minutes of unfinished work followed by 10 minutes of audience feedback. This is a unique opportunity to have a new audience view your work and provide feedback, suggestions, and answers to questions as you develop your work.

Portraiture

Portraiture is one of the most iconic and consistently revisited subjects in art. Since the beginning of civilization, artists have been consumed with the desire to capture the likeness of their fellow human as well as their own. From da Vinci, to Kahlo, to Picasso, to Kehinde Wiley to name just a few of the many famous artists for whom portraiture was a staple in their practice, portraits are not only a way of recording the features and personalities of a subject, they are also a look into the greater collective cultural paradigm.
