Queer Body Horror

Deriving from the idea of Judith Butler's unfulfilled promise of writing about “the place of sharp machines” and “the technology of the knife in debates about intersexuality and transsexuality alike,” the publication "Queer Body Horror" aims to "force an encounter with the real of the biological body and the difference it introduces into the world, the real of the sexed body, that exceeds the being of the phenomenological lived body and the discursive body, while somehow still being intertwined with these other two bodies...".

Naughty or Nice

87 Gallery seeks to support artists to design, print, and exhibit a piece in our next exhibition. 

You are invited to create a design based on the theme Naughty or Nice to be produced as a limited edition of 40, screen printed in-house by Misc. Print Co. and exhibited from 01 -12 December in our Hull based gallery.

Deadline for submission is 08 November. 

87 Gallery will cover all production costs. 40% of sales will go directly to the artist and 60% will go toward artist development at 87 Gallery and assist in further establishing a programme to support future arts and culture based opportunities for Hull's creative community.

Open call: Mycelium (Issue #2 Duende Contemporary Art Zine)

Mycelium are incredibly tiny “threads” of a  greater organism that wrap around or connect  into plant roots. Together, myecelium composes what's called a “mycorrhizal network,” which connects individual plants together to transfer water, nitrogen, carbon and other minerals that support life.

If only we humans had mycelium connecting us together and helping to link us in our growth and happiness.

This juried competition is open to U.S.-based artists aged 19 and older. The winner is awarded a $7,500 cash prize, a solo exhibition and printed catalog at Pelham Art Center. Pelham Art Center is proud to sponsor this competition and award honoring the memory and artistic achievement of artist Alexander Rutsch (1916 –1997).
