Cecilia de Torres, Ltd. was founded in 1993 following the success of the exhibition and catalogue "El Taller Torres-García: The School of the South and Its Legacy" (1991-1993). Initiated and co-curated by Cecilia de Torres, this show introduced the artists of El Taller (TTG), the workshop established by Joaquín Torres-García in Montevideo in 1943. Following the success of the exhibition, which traveled to venues throughout the United States, Europe, and Latin America, Cecilia de Torres opened her gallery to show the work of the artists of El Taller as well as contemporary artists who share in their tradition.
