Byrdcliffe Artist Residency Program 2019 in Woodstock, NY
Category:
Eligibility:
Byrdcliffe offers fully and partially funded residencies to creatives in all disciplines for monthly, seasonal, and year round duration in a serene mountain community 2.5 hours north of NYC in the mountains of Woodstock NY. Iterations open to individuals and couples. Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is particularly beneficial to those who find it restorative to live in a simple, communal environment in close proximity to natural beauty. In our Monthly Air Program, artists may choose between communal living consisting of a private bedroom in a shared building with a separate private studio OR apply for one of two private live/work cottages in close proximity. Cottages may accommodate couples depending on their practices. All monthly Artists are invited to participate an open studio, work-share, artist studio visits, cultural field trips, and communal dinners, or are free to work in solitude during their entire stay. Residents have the opportunity to participate in an exhibition at Byrdcliffe’s Kleinert/James Center for the Arts the Spring following their residency.
Byrdcliffe annually welcomes over 80 visual artists, writers, weavers, composers, and creators of exceptional talent in groups of 15-20 per month. The main criterion for acceptance to Byrdcliffe’s AiR program is artistic excellence or demonstrated commitment to one’s field of endeavor. Emerging as well as established artists, writers, musicians, and craftspeople in nearly all media are invited to apply. We offer ceramic kilns, weaving looms, and a minimal darkroom. We currently do not have printmaking facilities/equipment or a woodshop but welcome these disciplines. Please email us if you have questions regarding your specific practice's eligibility.
The application deadline is February 15, 2019. There is a subsidized fee of $700 for participation in the Monthly AiR program. Fellowships and subsidies are available to offset the residency fee. Different fees apply for private accommodations in Varenka and The Forge. Byrdcliffe extends tremendous gratitude to all of our supporters and granting partners and is offering the following fellowships for the 2019 AiR season through their generosity:
-Pollock-Krasner Foundation Support Fellowships for Visual Artists Affected by Natural Disaster
