Throughout this 5 week course you will be able to explore a range of jewellery making techniques and decorative surface applications on metal such as texturing, married metals and patinas and will use these to create bespoke jewellery such as a ring, pendant/earrings and a bangle. A variety of set projects will enable you to explore the techniques and develop key skills in designing, piercing, filing, forming, soldering, and finishing in silver, gilding metal and copper. Katherine will provide 121 support to help develop your learning and understanding of jewellery making using metal and to enable you to confidently apply the techniques to create professionally finished jewellery items.

City:

Description:

“To draw we need to learn how to ‘see’, to do this we need to understand the five perceptual skills of drawing”
Betty Edwards, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain.

Join us for this five-week intensive drawing course, based around the 5 basic principles of drawing: Line and Edge; Shape and Space, Light and Darks, Relationships and Bringing it Together.

Increase your confidence as we discover the basic principles of drawing together. Be prepared to make lots of ‘mistakes’- the best way to learn - and do lots of practice!

Week 1: Line and Edge - using a range of drawing tools including pencil, graphite, charcoal and erasers to explore the shape and quality of line.

Week 2: Shape and Space – looking for negative space in the pose and applying it to shape what you are drawing, using chalks, coloured pastels, and coloured paper.

Week 3: Lights and Darks – using a charcoal ground and putty rubbers, to explore shading and highlights and to create improved three dimensional form in your drawings.

Week 4: Relationships – use guides and artist techniques to create more accurate perspective and proportion in your drawings, using colour and texture.

Week 5: Bringing it together – the opportunity to choose your preference of materials, to create an artwork applying all the skills and techniques covered on the course.

Tougei (Pottery) with Emi Fujisawa

Type:

Category:

City:

Description:

Join ceramist Emi Fujisawa for an introduction to the many and varied methods of using clay to produce functional and artistic works based on your very own projects. This will include pinch pots, coiled pots and slabbed pieces. Decoration of work will be explored through the use of slips (coloured liquid clay), glazes and experimentation with surface texture.

Students with some previous experience in ceramics making will have an opportunity to build upon their skills already developed. The emphasis of these workshops is learning in a fun and sociable environment, with each individual working at their own pace doing what they enjoy most. Students are encouraged to investigate new ideas, techniques and the work of contemporary and historical makers if they are so inclined.
