Delivered from Holborn Studios, just a short walk from our Shoreditch premises, this course is aimed at beginners and intermediate photographers alike. No prior studio experience is necessary although a basic understanding of exposure and how to operate your camera is required. 

The aim of the course is to learn about the importance of light and how to control it as well as the relationship between photographer and sitter. You will work with studio flash and each participant will get plenty of hands–on time taking photographs.

You will concentrate on head and shoulders compositions and learn how measure exposure using the light meter. You will gain confidence using one flash head and reflectors to create an evenly lit subject.

This course is aimed at those with a good understanding of the basics of Photoshop and image adjustments and who want to take their image retouching to the next level. 

The main focus of our intermediate Photoshop class is to develop an efficient and non-destructive workflow from capture to output. Covering key areas such as non-destructive retouching, working with adjustment layers, cloning in Layers, organising the layer stack, keyboard shortcuts and the workspace, Level 2 will deliver a comprehensive follow on from the Photoshop Foundation. 

You will cover fundamental editing skills, such as colour with curves, layer masks and selective corrections. All editing will be taught with image quality in mind.

Photoshop Foundation – Level 1

Photoshop Foundation - Level 1 is a course aimed at beginners and will deliver a comprehensive introduction to the image editing program. This course will teach you the fundamentals of the Photoshop Workflow, the RAW converter (ACR) and making Adjustment Layers.

Learn to improve the visual quality of your image by making fundamental edits such as improving the tonal range, adjusting the brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and using a variety of tools and adjustments. You will also learn the basics of cloning to remove unwanted elements in an image.

This course focuses on image editing and leads onto our Photoshop Foundation - Level 2 course. If you already know the basics, consider starting with Level 2.

Lightroom Foundation

Adobe Lightroom Classic CC (formally known as Lightroom CC (confusing isn't it?!)) is becoming more and more popular with photographers and is increasingly being seen as the main retouching program. Lightroom goes hand in hand with Photoshop and together sets the industry standard of image editing. 

The software allows you to sort, rename, edit, tag, as well as make exposure and other batch image adjustments, non-destructively. 

This course will take you from the setting up of this affordable piece of software, looking at importing your images, to editing and organising them. The Develop module is where you can correct and process RAW and JPEG files, as well as apply a range of effects, all covered in detail.

The course will also look at how images can be exported directly from Lightroom to websites, Facebook, used in album design or made into prints.

This one day course is suitable for all levels of photographer from complete beginner to advanced and aims to introduce the practice of Street Photography. It is concerned with improving the personal work that all participants are making and increasing the chances of a successful hunt.

In the classroom, the group will talk about optimum camera set ups, how to interact with subjects and legal rights. Participants will look at the work of the masters of street photography and discuss how they got their shots and what lead them to such brilliant subjects. Also covered is looking at how street photographers have reflected their times and reinvigorated its limits so that each participant can too.

More than any other approach street photography allows the opportunity to develop the eye so there will be a substantial practical session followed by a critique of work produced and suggestions for how to keep progressing and improving and ways to iron out problems experienced.

The focus of this course is not on technical ability but on developing the creative side of your photography.

Intense Foundation of Digital Photography – Level 2 is a logic follow on from our Level 1 course. It is aimed at those who already know the basics of digital photography, know how their camera works and who want to step it up a level.

The course is set in a relaxed and professional classroom environment and participants are taught theory which is backed up by a significant location based practical session in the afternoon.
