Based in Manchester we specialise in event and prop design, production & installation. Company: Visual Architects

Job Title: Joiner - Multi Trade Person Freelance 

Your role within the company will be to work with building materials (most often wood) mainly within the workshop but sometimes on site. You will plan and execute the construction of large props items as assigned by the construction manager. You will be asked to work with and should be familiar with a variety of materials and techniques including, but not limited to, wood, alu-bond, acrylic, foam ex, metal work and structural design. As a Joiner with VA you will be expected to carry out joinery/carpentry to a high standard. You will be carrying out all 1st, 2nd and final fixes ensuring that all work carried out meets statutory requirements, customer expectations and company procedures. This role will be working for a responsive team but will also cover voids from time to time when needed.

You will work independently, and you will monitor your schedule of work via our project app that we train you on, You will be responsible for your own Health and Safety and of those around you. You will be carrying out responsive and repair works, as well as joinery you will be required to have basic skills in metal, decorating, cutting, stenciling work associated art trade skills with a Prop and Set design

Skills and Experience

4 year + knowledge of building and construction

Professional Joiner building or Carpentry qualification desired

Good Knowledge of various mechanical woodworking tools

Basic math for accurate measurements and reading technical drawings

Working with wood - how to cut build and finish

Ability to use, repair and maintain machines and tools

Duties and Responsibilities

Work alongside designers in order to understand projects and products.

Read, interpet and build from designers' drawings.

Follow all management and tasks allocated to you.

Follow and keep to time schedules set by manager

Use power tools and other tools in order to complete tasks

Work in a safe, efficient and organized manner

Keep a daily log of products build and procedures followed

Update error forms and report any issues to manager

Touch up, repair, and maintain products in good condition

Help with load in and load outs

Work from workshop and on sites if required

Overlook and carry out maintenance on machinery and make sure its kept in the best condition

Responsibility for equipment and tools within your work space - if any issues report at once to management

Maintain a clean working environment on a daily basis

Sign out any materials needed from the internal market store

Update manager and inform him of materials or tools needed in advance

Take part and attend in all necessary meetings with a productive and positive input

Look for new innovative ways to work and better your department

Act as a good ambassador for Visual Architects both on and off duty

Promote brand awareness through all means and social platforms

PLEASE NOTE: that this is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week across Monday to Friday. But can involve weekends for festival site builds and foreign travel for installs abroad.

More about you

As one of our Joiners you will hold an NVQ level 2 (or equivalent) in joinery/carpentry coupled with a strong working knowledge of set building or bar restaurant installations. If you had experience of installations or festival builds that would be highly advantageous.

You will be able to demonstrate, at interview, excellent knowledge of best practice health and safety in the workplace, your positive approach and commitment to delivering creative and imaginative designs and good working with other departments.

Ideally you will possess previous experience working in an environment with CNC Machines and Prop dressers + installers

Due to the travel required in this role, candidates must possess a current UK driving license and Passport. This role is working Monday - Friday but you will be on call and will be required to cover weekends as required as part of your contract.
