Job Title: Festival Communications Assistant (Temporary)

Responsible to: Communications Manager 

Contract: Temporary (Fixed Term 4-Month Contract) 

Hours: Part-time – 22.5 hours per week  

Holiday Entitlement: 25 days per annum (8.3 pro rata), plus Bank Holidays in lieu 

Probationary Period: One months 

Salary: £23,400 (FTE) per annum (£4,680 pro rata) 

Pension: The People’s Pension Scheme, Employer contributions 3% gross salary 

Location: Working at The Sharp Project, Thorp Road, Manchester, M40 5BJ

OVERVIEW OF POST: 

We are seeking a motivated fast learner with bags of initiative to join SICK! Festival on a temporary fixed term contract as Festival Communications Assistant. The Festival Communications Assistant role is vital for the successful delivery of SICK! Festival 2024. The successful candidate will work closely with the Festival Communications Manager and wider SICK! team to ensure all deliverables relating to communications are met. The Festival Communications Assistant role will involve supporting all activity with an emphasis on creative problem solving and timely delivery of social media content, marketing materials, scheduling and general administration duties to ensure efficiency in the orgnaisation’s communications throughout this time. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain skills and experience in communications including social media, customer service, ticketing and event management in a fast-paced, creative and future-facing arts organisation. Our Festival is based in the North Manchester communities of Moston, Harpurhey and Charlestown, potential candidates from these areas are encouraged to apply.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Contribute and support the Communications Manager with the delivery of fresh and exciting visual aids, proactively liaising with colleagues and partners to collate high quality, accurate, engaging text, images, and audio-visual materials, ensuring that it is kept fresh and fits within SICK!’s brand and tone of voice.  
  • Support in the management of SICK!’s social media and e-marketing platforms, generating and producing on brand, informative and engaging social media assets and posts to successfully communicate SICK!’s key messaging and themes (to be signed off by the Communications Manager)   
  • Liase with festival attendees, artists and festival staff members to ensure GDPR guidelines are met when content is created and captured.  
  • Responding and resolving general customer queries, including across social media platforms, and contributing to successful box office management.  
  • Develop engaging, informative, and visually compelling content, proactively liaising with colleagues to define priorities, and timeframes.  
  • Support the Communcations Manager with any wider tasks contributing to the successful delivery of SICK! Festival 2024.  
  • Submitting timely reports detailing customer queries and identifying opportunities for mitigation based on trends.  
  • Develop engaging, informative, and visually compelling content, proactively liaising with colleagues to define priorities, and timeframes.  
  • Ensuring that assets produced can be used across various social media platforms, our website and other digital channels.   
  • Produce and coordinate production of copy.  
  • Contribute to the development of creative evaluation and audience feedback processes (internal/external e.g., surveys, and polls), supporting internal and external reporting to relevant stakeholders on the Communications Strategy, delivery, and impact.  

GENERAL:  

  • Support the delivery of the SICK! vision and strategy, working collaboratively with the rest of the team to achieve the mission and purpose in line with SICK! values  
  • Ensure that SICK! policies are kept up to date and adhered to.  
  • Support events and performances including interacting with attendees (where applicable).  
  • Positively represent the organisation at events, online and offline activities.  

PERSON SPECIFICATION  

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:  

  • Passionate about, and interested in, the areas in which SICK! operates – arts, health, diversity, community development and international work.  
  • Have experience of, and enjoy, dealing with the public and working with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.  
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Passionate about communications and innovative communications strategy.   
  • Experience communicating using email in a professional capacity.  
  • Have experience in, and a keen interest in social media and all things digital.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Strong organisational skills, the ability to manage a busy workload and prioritise.  
  • Able to work supportively as part of a small team.  
  • Able to organise and prioritise your workload while working on multiple projects simultaneously.  

DESIRABLE 

  • Knowledge of the areas we operate in (Moston, Harpurhey and Charlestown) and the issues that impact North Manchester.  
  • Knowledge of legal issues related to communications, including copyright, GDPR and permissions.  
  • Experience of writing copy, production and assisting with commissioning design work.   
  • Experience of photography and videography.  
  • UK Driving license and access to a vehicle.
