Warehouse Manager/Registrar for the Studios of Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman
Position duties include:
Making arrangements for and coordinating operations involving packing, transportation, and special handling of art objects on loan to or from the studio. This includes the responsibility for the safe professional handling of works on loan to major museums and galleries as they leave or enter the studio warehouse.
Initiating and maintaining contact with institutions and packing firms on incoming and outgoing loan or consignment requests and coordinating all logistics for shipping and receiving of art works to and from the studio.
Creating guidelines and providing specifications to contractors providing crates for packing.
Creating guidelines and providing specifications to galleries and institutions for installation of art works.
Ensuring accurate completion of appropriate written documentation related to the shipping-packing function. This includes corresponding with professional packers, shippers, galleries and museums.
Assisting Studio Manager with maintaining and updating studio database in relation to location and status of art works.
Preparing and organizing incoming and outgoing condition reports
The ideal candidate will have experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
Experience with operating a fork lift
Experience working with collections databases, maintaining accurate records
Experience liaising with museums, galleries, and other arts institutions
Knowledge of proper art handling, safety, and storage protocols at museum-level standards
Knowledge of basic office software programs including Excel and Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
Ability to work independently
Excellent communication skills both within and outside of the studio
Art history and/or studio background
Ability to lift 50 + pounds
Basic carpentry skills a plus
Ability to design and/or manufacture special crates and interior packing for art objects
The work schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 9am – 5pm. Occasionally this position may require working after normal business hours or on the weekend.
