In an effort to further expand The Conservation Center's Custom Framing and Fabrication Department, the company is searching for an experienced custom framer. The department provides professional matting, conservation framing, and frame repair for private, corporate, and museum clients. The ideal candidate should have the following: extremely fine manual skills; the ability to carry out projects of minor to major complexity; sound judgment; the ability to meet scheduled deadlines; and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and clients as a positive and productive team member.


  • Thorough knowledge of archival framing techniques and experience in a high-end framing environment are required.
  • The candidate must have the ability to fit custom frames, re-fit frames for paintings, perform custom hinging, hand cut matting, frame works of art on paper, create custom mounts and stands for 3-dimensional objects, and fit objects in acrylic vitrines.
  • The candidate must also be able to fabricate French and fabric-wrapped mats, as well as install fillets.
  • The candidate must be organized and possess the ability to track departmental supplies and update stock when necessary, as well as accurately track and locate items using the company's custom-built database.
  • Art handling, packing, and installation experience are each a plus.
  • Customer service experience is a plus, as the position requires meeting with clients to choose framing options on an as-needed basis.
  • A positive attitude, good communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment are all essential.
  • Some travel may be required for emergency disaster response and local on-site installations. Travel may be required at short notice and is on an as-needed basis.
