Job Description

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeing a skilled, creative visual storyteller to join our team as a Video Producer. You will translate complex scientific and technical information to create engaging, educational and visually appealing video packages. As a member of the Public Affairs Office, you will lead in all areas of video production, from initial conceptual design, storyboarding and script writing to videography, interviewing, editing and other post-production. This position is in the Public Affairs Office within the Director's Office.

This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

In this role you will

• Create short-, medium- and long-form video packages using the most advanced video production tools and industry-standard best practices.

• Partner with Public Affairs colleagues to develop video packages to complement news releases and announcements as part of a cohesive content schedule.

• Source and pitch compelling stories for video concepts by developing effective working relationships with the Laboratory's broad and diverse programs and organizations.

• Research and write professional-quality, factually correct scripts and storyboards that explain concepts in science and technology to the public following standard journalistic style.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the G03.3 level

• Serves as a technical subject matter expert to colleagues in Public Affairs and throughout the Laboratory.

• Assumes ownership of complex video projects with multiple and conflicting deadlines and guides them through successful completion.

• Plans long-term video projects and campaigns that integrate with Public Affairs and Laboratory strategic communication goals.

Qualifications

• Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship

• BA in Film Production, English, Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent level of progressive competence gained through a combination of work-related experience, education and training.

• Demonstrated skill in video production tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects and others (or equivalent, such as Final Cut Pro).

• Expertise in videography, audio recording and lighting.

• Significant storytelling expertise, with preferred experience in translating complex topics

• Experience planning and producing videos packages on a variety of topics, including topics technical in nature. Experience developing science communication preferred.

• Experience meeting deadlines while handling multiple assignments.

• Ability to work both collaboratively within a creative team, and as a self-sufficient individual contributor.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a drive for quality control and excellence.

• Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills including tact and diplomacy to effectively interact with all levels of LLNL, partner organizations and the general public.

Additional qualifications at the G03.3 level

• Significant experience in utilizing production tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop, After Effects and others (or equivalent, such as Final Cut Pro).

• Experience in project management and directing the efforts of others.

• Advanced knowledge and expertise in complex video production concepts, methods, and techniques.

Qualifications We Desire

• Experience with social media management, including content scheduling platforms, understanding of current trends and excellent working knowledge of back-end analytic tools.

• Experience working in a science, engineering, technology, or national security environment.

• Experience working with or interacting with a national lab, the Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, or other U.S. government agencies.
