About Dataland

Dataland is the world's first institution dedicated to the AI Arts by pioneer artist Refik Anadol - a new cultural paradigm where data is the pigment, machine intelligence is the collaborator, and human imagination is the guide. Opening in 2026 inside the iconic Frank Gehry-designed The Grand LA in Downtown Los Angeles, Dataland is a landmark immersive experience unlike anything else in the world.

We're not a museum. We're not a theme park. We're something entirely new - and the people who bring it to life every day are at the center of it.

The Role

As a Gallery Docent, you are the human heartbeat of the Dataland experience. You are the first voice guests hear, the calm presence that guides them through something extraordinary, and the last person who sends them back into the world with a Data Token in hand.

Docents are not tour guides. You won't narrate or interpret the experience for guests - Dataland does that on its own. Your role is to welcome people warmly, keep the experience moving smoothly, handle real-time needs with composure, and ensure every guest feels supported without ever feeling managed.

You'll rotate through stations across the venue - from the courtyard entry and lobby to the Discovery Portal, gallery spaces, F&B counter, and checkout - as part of a coordinated team operating a 90-minute immersive experience from open to close.

What You'll Do

  • Welcome guests at entry, confirm reservations, and direct them into the appropriate queue
  • Assist with ticketing, device setup, and connection troubleshooting
  • Guide guests through transitions between gallery spaces, providing sensory advisories and clear functional information
  • Support accessibility needs and coordinate with the team on ADA accommodations
  • Collect scent devices and wearables at checkout and present guests with their Data Token
  • Maintain a calm, warm, and professional presence throughout the experience — even when things don't go as planned
  • Work as part of a coordinated team using radio communication across stations

Who You Are

  • A natural communicator who is warm, clear, and unflappable in a crowd
  • Comfortable on your feet for an entire shift in a dynamic, sensory-rich environment
  • Someone who takes pride in getting the details right - the right queue, the right timing, the right tone
  • Adaptable and team-oriented - you understand that your station is part of a larger system
  • Genuinely curious about art, technology, or immersive experience - you don't need to be an expert, but you need to care

Basic Qualifications

  • Prior experience in guest services, hospitality, museums, live events, or a similar front-of-house environment preferred
  • Comfortable with technology and mobile ticketing systems
  • Ability to stand and move throughout the venue for extended periods
  • Availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays

Compensation & Benefits

This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Pay range is $19 – $21 per hour. Both full-time and part-time schedules are available. Eligible employees have access to Dataland's benefits program including health insurance and paid time off, in accordance with company policy and applicable California law.

Dataland complies with all applicable California and Los Angeles City wage and hour requirements.
