Millea Bros, a leading boutique auction house focused on property from distinguished New York Metro Area estates, institutions, and private collections, is seeking a full-time Generalist Cataloger and Appraiser for in-house auction preparation and appraisal work. Applicants must be self-starting, detail-oriented, and capable of valuing and researching a wide range of art and antiques. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with team members to catalog and value a diverse range of art and antiques for upcoming sales.
- Research property for auction, including verifying authenticity, provenance, and exhibition history, using online databases, the internet, and consulting with outside experts.
- Prepare condition reports for property in upcoming sales.
- Support all aspects of catalog production.
- Market upcoming sales by identifying clients who may be interested in specific works coming to auction and help to develop effective sales strategies.
- Engage and assist prospective bidders during public auction previews.
- Assist with valuations and proposals for consignments, working closely with other members of the Millea Bros team.
Skills & Experience:
- Solid academic and market understanding of a broad range of art and antiques.
- A minimum of one year of professional cataloging/appraisal experience, preferably within an auction house setting.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience in client interaction and service, with a good “bedside manner.”
- Strong writing skills with the ability to produce engaging content across various platforms, including marketing materials.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively under deadlines.
- Computer proficiency.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred.
