Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday (Onsite)
Compensation: $68,000 - $72,000 + OT
Position Summary
Lisson Gallery is seeking an experienced full-time technician / art handler to join their New York Operations team. We are looking for a self starting individual who has a minimum of 1-3 years experience in a gallery or museum setting. The position reports to the Senior Technician and with their guidance is responsible for the handling, packaging, condition checking and installation of artworks of varied media at the gallery, and offsite locations such as art fairs and client residencies where appropriate. The role is a full-time position with overtime required as needed.
Key priorities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Handling and installing artworks, including painting, sculpture, works on paper, design objects and digital media.

Prepare art works for exhibitions, art fairs, photography, outgoing loans and viewing rooms.

Cataloguing artwork into gallery database, ensuring the database is kept up to date and accurate.

Conduct condition checks for various types of artwork: Identifying, noting, and documenting conditions with appropriate language and imagery.

Assist the Registrar team in recording collections and deliveries of artworks on and offsite, ensuring locations are updated on the database.

Packing and condition checking artworks for local and international shipping

Assist the Facilities Manager with general gallery upkeep and maintenance of the gallery and viewing rooms.

Offsite support for client services, site visits, photography, and art fairs.

Maintain and organize storage rooms at the gallery as well as offsite locations.

Organize tool and supply areas ensuring a steady stock.

Assist with annual inventories of artworks in the gallery and at local storage locations.

Complete any other ad hoc tasks and projects as necessary.
Key skills/highly desirable attributes include:

A minimum of 1-3 years’ experience in art handling in a gallery or museum setting.

Knowledge of best practices and materials for handling and packing art work.

Must have a diverse understanding of different mediums and materials and experience installing a wide range of artworks, including large sculpture, media based artworks, etc.

Enthusiastically and pragmatically communicate within Operations Team

Ability to manage a personal busy workload and keep calm when under pressure

Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn

Proven problem solving skills

Excellent communication skills and ability to be an ambassador for gallery

Ability to work creatively, effectively and efficiently independently and as part of a team.

Ability to lift and move heavy objects as required

Experience working with databases & condition checking software

Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

Attention to detail

Valid driver’s license
The position is Tuesday - Saturday from 9:30am - 6pm. Applicants must be flexible and available to work outside of designated workdays on an as-needed basis. Ability to travel on occasion.
