GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The School of Pennsylvania Ballet offers the highest caliber dance education of any program in the Greater Philadelphia area, providing our students with exceptional technical training and unparalleled performance opportunities. Founded by Barbara Weisberger, a protégé of the great George Balanchine, the school carries on his honored tradition of (and devotion to) developing young artists and preparing them to become successful professionals in today’s competitive ballet landscape.
SPB’s children’s ballet faculty is a part-time position responsible for instructing students ages 2 through 8 in the Children’s Program and lower level Student Program at The School of Pennsylvania Ballet. The full academic year at SPB runs September through mid-June while the summer children’s programming runs for 6-8 weeks during the summer season. Due to COVID-19, the SPB Children’s Program is currently operating via the Zoom platform, with faculty directing the lesson from the PAB studios.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced classical ballet instructor with an extensive background in dance education, preferably with young children. Professional performance experience is a plus. Children’s ballet faculty should possess a strong knowledge of child development and enrichment programming with the ability to develop age appropriate and engaging programming. Enthusiasm for early childhood dance education and appreciation for the art form is a must. Children’s faculty reports to the School Director and the School Principal.
TYPICAL WORK ROUTINE INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO:
Approximately 4-8 hours per week of instruction implementing SPB curriculum
Mid-year and year-end leveling evaluations and conferences
Year-end in-studio showing & performance preparations
Maintenance of accurate class rosters and student records
Positive communication and interaction with students, parents, and SPB staff
OTHER RESPONSIBILITES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Familiarity with the Zoom platform and Microsoft Office products
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of budgeting for special event programming
Punctuality, professionalism, and the ability to be a team player is a must
Proven track record of recruiting and retention of students is a plus
