Summer Teaching Artists in Visual Arts & Theater for ages 4-12

We are open to applicants interested in multiple weeks and/ or a single week and will do our best to accommodate scheduling needs.Specific teaching hours are provided based on enrollment. Typically teachers lead classes 2 - 3.5 hours during the camp day. Camps are weekly June 13 - Aug. 19, 2022

About the Camp Program: Seeking both visual and performing artists with teaching experience who want to share their talents and encourage young people to find their artistic style and voice. Lesson plans are developed in collaboration with the week's lead teaching artist and other faculty at Yocum. The camps are structured as weekly offerings under an umbrella theme. Participants may attend AM only or full day, but are expected to attend every day so that projects, routines, creative drama, etc have the opportunity to build on the prior day's learning. Children are divided into age appropriate small groups (typically no more than 12) so that adjustments can be made to the activities as needed. More information can be found on our website.

Duties include, but aren't limited to:

  1. Prepare lesson/ activities that reflect the weekly theme and are scalable to the wide age range (4-12.)
  2. Proactively engage and be encouraging of all students
  3. Work kindly and respectfully with the Camp Aides and other staff
  4. Manage provided materials and supplies in a sustainable way that they can be used again by others.
  5. Look and be creative with the variety of materials and equipment already on hand at Yocum. 6. As needed, provide list of requested specialized materials at least 2 weeks before your first teaching day for approval and purchase.
  6. Assist with setup, breakdown and clean-up of activities


  • Strong record of teaching/ working with a variety of ages. 
  • Ability to plan lessons and manage materials.
  • Strong resume as an artist/ performer in the art form you are applying to lead.
  • College students who have completed their Sophomore year in a specified art field and have teaching experience are welcome to apply.
  • Must be a positive, inclusive, problem-solver who enjoys working with children and the arts.
  • Must provide clearances and background checks as required by the State of PA to work with children before start date
  • Must participate in at least one-training at Yocum Institute prior to start date

Pay: COE, up to $21 hourly
