The Program Director, in collaboration with the President & Artistic Director, plans, develops and oversees all musical activities associated with the Gateways Music Festival and is responsible for the delivery and overall success of each program including, but not limited to, the orchestra, chamber music, enrichment activities and public programs. The Program Director creates and monitors the budget for the Festival’s programs and ensures that the artists and guest artists have all the tools and resources required to achieve the best artistic outcomes possible. The Program Director supervises a part-time and seasonal staff of approximately eight people.

This is a full-time position with full benefits from the University of Rochester and a flexible work location.

About Gateways Music Festival:

Gateways Music Festival provides a welcoming, supportive and artistically invigorating experience for professional classical musicians of African descent. Approximately 125 musicians participate in the week-long Festival which can include up 50 chamber music and orchestral performances throughout the host city.

Gateways participants are members of professional orchestras; faculty from music schools and conservatories; and freelance artists.

Gateways was founded by African-American concert pianist Armenta Hummings Dumisani, named one of the “Juilliard 100,” a list of that institution’s most prominent graduates in its 100-year history, and has been based in Rochester, New York since 1996.

While an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization, the Gateways Music Festival has a close association with the Eastman School of Music.
