“Neuromaterialism”
The Contemporary Art and Science Center shares exciting news!
The exhibition’s author – artist Tomas Lagūnavičius.
Opening: October 7, at the KSJMC Contemporary Art and Science Center, Sandėlių St. 7, Kaunas, 1st floor.
Exhibition runs until: November 4.
We experience the world through our nervous system. It is our filter of perception – allowing us to understand, feel, and create, yet also setting limits. Neuromaterialism suggests that everything we know is material, but our understanding depends on the unique structure of our neural connections, impulses, and brain patterns. This means we perceive the world precisely as far as our biology allows.
However, this limitation does not imply error – rather, it is a personal interpretation of reality. Each person’s nervous system constructs a unique image of the world, so there is no single objective perception. Both the world and our nervous system’s version of it coexist.
The exhibition “Neuromaterialism” invites visitors to explore how matter transforms into thought, and thought into action. How our sensations shape reality, and how reality shapes us in return. It reminds us that knowledge is not merely a rational process – it is a living connection between the brain, the body, and the world, through which each of us materializes our own reality.
