Melissa Huddleston: "The Drops" Exhibition Walk-Through

Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is pleased to invite you to Melissa Huddleston: The Drops : A Talk, an artist led walk-through of her second solo exhibition with the gallery, on Saturday, May 30, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. 

Critical analysis positions The Drops in direct conversation with and critique of patriarchal art historical canons. The series channels the simplicity and discipline of the California Light and Space movement; however, it trades that movement's traditionally industrial, rigid, and slick fabrications for something deeply organic, raw, and vulnerable. It also anchors itself in a profoundly personal yet universal subversion of historical "minor arts”. Together, we will explore how Huddleston’s practice leverages paper marbling and techniques linked to ancient scriptural arts, and look into how motherhood and her day job as a paper conservator have directly impacted her approach to paint chemistry.
