An educational embroidery workshop for the whole family!
About this event
In this workshop, you’ll learn about identifying poison ivy and the basics of embroidery. You’ll then use this knowledge to create your own embroidered poison ivy piece, which will become part of a collaborative artwork that will be displayed at the Kortright Centre for Conservation! Materials will be provided. All workshop participants will receive a poison ivy pocket guide to take home.
Dates: Sunday July 24 - 1pm to 3pm OR Sunday August 21 - 10am to 12pm
*Please note: the same workshop will run both days, so content will not change.
Participants do not need previous embroidering or sewing experience to be part of this workshop. All materials are provided for you, along with hands-on, step-by-step instruction. This workshop is designed for participants aged 10 years and older.
There is a limited number of spots available and registration is required. This ensures we maximize the learning and enjoyment for participants attending the workshop.
About the Instructor:
Sarah Zanchetta (she/her, b. 1996) is an artist and writer whose research-based textile practice considers the lost knowledge in connection to the land and plants which surround us. She is currently investigating the relationship between humans and toxicity, specifically the fringed relationships we have with poisonous plants. Zanchetta received her BFA from OCAD University in 2018, and is currently enrolled in the Masters of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto. Since 2017, her work has been exhibited both locally and internationally, including shows at The Power Plant Contemporary Gallery, Gladstone Hotel, and ON-ART Gallery.

About the Kortright Centre:
The Kortright Centre is named after world-renowned outdoorsman, author and conservationist Francis H. Kortright. Long before the environmental crisis became an issue of global concern, Kortright recognized the urgency and resolved to do something about it. He devoted the latter part of his life, his full attention and his abundant energies to the cause of protecting wild creatures of the fields, forests, waters, and skies. In so doing, he created for all Canadians a legacy that will be appreciated by many generations to come. Since the Kortright Centre opened, it has delivered unique environmental educational experiences to more than two million visitors.
The Visitor Centre at the Kortright Centre for Conservation is located at 9550 Pine Valley Dr, Woodbridge, ON L4L 1A6. There is plenty of free parking on site.
