Social Media & Design Internship

We are looking for a part-time intern to work in tandem with the co-founders of a newly launched art startup. The ideal candidate must have at least one year of professional experience in communication, social media, or digital design roles. The position requires basic knowledge of contemporary art at a professional level, and candidates must show interest in the field.

The position gives a direct experience of establishing and developing a contemporary art startup. Working as a team on a small staff makes this an ideal situation to gain first-hand knowledge and participation in many aspects of the company operations.

We are looking for an organized, independent, and driven person who is task-oriented. Candidates must have strong design skills and fluency with Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.

The tasks include, but are not limited to: managing the social media calendar (instagram/facebook), design art catalogues and sales materials, web design, managing our blog (update & creation of content), Linkedin (update & content), general design tasks (press release, press kit...), press on website (update), Youtube channel (update), suggesting the use of other media platforms to increase base of followers and engagement and ultimately convert those into leads. 

The position is for 16 h/week for a period of three-months with the possibility to extend. Hours and days are flexible, depending on applicants' availability.

SKT's mission has always been to break boundaries, promote inclusiveness and accessibility. Starting as a gallery, SKT aimed to create scattered, multi-location exhibitions. In the last year, our team has expanded and we have organized a variety of amazing projects: art and music exhibitions, events, blog and podcast series, an online shop and tailored consulting.

We also nurtured partnerships with several companies and organisations to extend the gallery's ventures. SKT partnered with Arbor Standard, an Extended Reality Company and created 2 virtual exhibitions together. Furthermore, by partnering with Whereform and TreeSisters, we created a link between art and sustainability, planting trees for each artist joining the show.

We are looking for volunteers and enthusiast to join our team with a prospective of switching over to a part-time position in the winter season. 

The ideal candidate we look for is:

  • Hands-on and enthusiastic about helping across a range of tasks
  • Happy to ‘muck-in’ where needed
  • Friendly and approachable for advising visitors on what to see during the exhibitions
  • Basic awareness of current affairs of the art world
  • Committed! You don’t need to be available for the entire week, but be committed to the availability agreed

Mark DeGarmo Dance, a leading nonprofit organization with a dance education program deemed “a national model” by The National Endowment for the Arts., was founded in 1987 as Dynamic Forms, Inc. President Barack Obama commended Dr. Mark DeGarmo and Mark DeGarmo Dance for “your service to your communities and the nation.” Dance/USA called MDD’s dance archive “historically significant.” MDD’s tripart mission includes Educate NYC communities, especially children; Create, Perform and Disseminate original dances, artistic and scholarly work; and Build intercultural community through dance. DeGarmo has created, and MDD has produced, over 100 dances and multiple international tours involving cultural diplomacy and exchange with 12 countries across Latin America and Europe, including Russia. MDD’s evidence-based and scientifically researched education programs benefit under-resourced and disenfranchised BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) New York City prekindergarten to grade 5 Title I public school students and communities without access to highest quality dance education. In 2020-21, the organization served 5 public elementary schools with up to 3,000 students total in 4 NYC boroughs. MDD’s total global outreach included approximately 2.2 mm individuals across all programs. 

We seek a Dance Archive Intern to start immediately for a summer internship with the potential for continued part-time paid work. The internship occurs on-site in the organization’s Lower East Side NYC studio theater and office Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at The Clemente Soto Velez Center. The Dance Archive Intern will work directly with the Operations, Marketing, and Archival Analyst and receive guidance from Dr. Mark DeGarmo, Ph.D, BFA, Founder, Executive and Artistic Director. 

This 8- to 12-week, 20 hours per week unpaid internship offers an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable practical professional experience in developing an artist-driven dance archive with an exemplary dance organization. The Dance Archive Intern will gain mentored hands-on experience in archival organization and preservation as Mark DeGarmo Dance’s 50-year artist-driven dance archive is prepared for repositories in Los Angeles, Mexico City, Moscow, and New York City; and online public access.

Prior knowledge of and experience with archival materials, handling, and best practices a plus.

Interest in and knowledge of arts administration, dance and movement practices, and dance education a plus.


This is an 8- to 12-week, 20 hours per week unpaid internship with possibility for college or other credit and compensation that you would arrange with your institution. Successful completion of the internship includes the potential for continued part-time paid work.
