The MassArt Art Museum (MAAM), opening to the public in February 2020, is the newest contemporary art museum in New England. Formerly known as the Bakalar & Paine Galleries, we are a non-collecting kunsthalle with a nearly 40-year history of hosting contemporary art exhibitions featuring professional artists from around the world. Exhibitions and events at MAAM are free and open to the public and we are a W.A.G.E.-certified museum.

Job Description
This part-time administrative position is designed to broaden the experience of graduate students embarking on professional and academic careers in art history, museum studies, or related fields who are considering a museum profession. The Curatorial Fellow will be a key contributor to the MAAM team. The Fellow will work 1-2 weekdays on site (days/times negotiable). Occasional evening and weekend hours for special events may be needed. This work requires flexibility in a fast-paced office environment.

Assists with a broad range of curatorial activities, including:
Exhibition planning and coordination (research, writing, shipping, and logistics for upcoming shows and related events)
Correspondence with artists, galleries, and lenders
Assistance with gallery publications and online media

Qualifications
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or related field
Preferred: Well-versed in contemporary art, master’s degree (completed or in progress), and previous experience in a professional art gallery or museum setting

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 
The successful candidate must have:
Interest in contemporary art
Familiarity with best practices associated with the operation of a museum/gallery
Excellent organizational, time management, interpersonal, and communication skills
Flexibility to accomplish time-sensitive tasks and ability to adapt to meet deadlines with little supervision
Attention to detail, ability to produce excellent writing, and strong proofreading skills
Computer and basic social media literacy

Salary: $20/hour
Hours: 7 hours/week during business hours (days/times negotiable)
Duration: Ideally September 2019 – May 2020
