CORA DANCE SEEKS FUNDRAISING/EVENTS INTERN

March 1-June 2, 2019

STIPEND: $1000 + 15 hours of free rehearsal space

Mission: Through its professional company, youth companies and pay-what-you-can school, Cora Dance creates exceptional dance experiences while addressing the impediments that restrict many individuals from accessing the art form. Cora fosters common ground among diverse people, allowing all involved - artists, students, audiences and community members - to connect more deeply with one another through the arts.

Cora Dance, a nonprofit dance organization located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, seeks a FUNDRAISING/EVENTS INTERN to work closely with our Operations & Events Manager to assist with our main fundraising event of the year: The 7th Annual Red Hook Community Prom.

Cora Dance presents its beloved, RETRO high-school-prom-themed, kick-ass dance party: THE RED HOOK COMMUNITY PROM. Whether you want to relive it all or need a total re-do PROM is the place to make it happen! With photo booth by MVS Studios; an incredible silent auction; live performances by Cora’s professional and youth companies; and throwback 70s, 80s, and 90s hits spun by DJ Robert Lux, this event will rock you like it’s 1999!  Proceeds support the scholarship fund and YCP/Youth Company Programs of Cora Dance.

As a key team player, the intern will:

Coordinate the silent auction for our event by:

-Researching prospects and soliciting in-kind donations from local businesses, corporations, and key constituents (audience members, community members, families, etc.)

-Setting up and managing online auction

-Grouping donated items into lots

-Creating bid sheets

-Creating signage

-Seeking display options for items

Assist with logistics and event coordination by:

-Securing event volunteers and food/drink donations

-Corresponding with these volunteers to set up timelines and job assignments at the discretion of the Operations & Events Manager

Coordinate and apply marketing strategies inclusive of:

-Social media marketing

-In person flyering and marketing events

On the day of the event, the intern must be present to:

-Set up/run silent auction

-Remain available to assist with set up, event assistance and breakdown

-Close bid sheets

-Clean out

Position/Internship will run from March - June 2019 (some flexibility on start date). The Intern should be able to devote 10+ hours per week and meet weekly with Cora’s staff in house. The ideal candidate is a Jack of All Trades who is willing to take initiative and commit to a hands-on work atmosphere with a diverse group of individuals. Arts Administration students are welcome and college credit is available if applicable.

Other benefits include up to 15 hours of free rehearsal space if desired.
