Learning in Galleries (short course)

The Learning in Galleries short course is an innovative four-day programme, designed by UCL Institute of Education in partnership with Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education, as an introduction to education in galleries.

The taught sessions will take place at UCL Institute of Education and selected London galleries. In addition participants are required to undertake some gallery-based research to inform discussion. With sessions led by established gallery professionals and academics, including: Jane Sillis: Director Engage, Angela Rogers: Engage Cymru.

Available dates
The course is taught over four days (2 days at London galleries, 2 days at UCL Institute of Education). The dates are 11 July, 12 July, 25 July and 26 July 2019.

Who this course is for
The course is designed and aimed at early career gallery educators.

Course content and learning outcomes
The taught seminars and workshops will cover the following subjects:

• positioning learning in the gallery
• learning theories
• the gallery as a pedagogic institution
• contemporary art & artists in education
• digital technologies
• interpretation, theory and practice
• career pathways for gallery educators.

Participants will gain confidence and understanding in these aspects of learning in galleries.

Fees
£300 for Engage members, £350 for organisational members, £400 for non-members.
