What to Expect
This online writing workshop is for artists who want to improve their existing Artist’s Statement as they work towards upcoming exhibition/residency applications, artist website updates, or any other setting where an artist needs to write about their work.
The workshop will include a brief presentation that introduces art writing guidelines and examples. This instruction will outline methods for improving writing skills, include suggested resources, and define objectives for various types of writing artists need to tackle in their practice. Each of the 4 participants will bring their own existing artist’s statement (up to 500 words), and Sarah will facilitate 30 minutes for each artist to receive individualized feedback from the entire group (both instructor and peers) on their statement.
Participants will leave with multiple resources, writing prompts, and an in depth set of suggested edits for their statement. The session is 3 hours long with a short break in the middle. Join in to meet other artists and contribute to a robust deep dive into art writing!

Testimonials
"Sarah’s mentorship is like a coffee chat with your favorite professor. She is encouraging and inquisitive, offering questions, prompts, references, and feedback that will stick with you and propel your practice forward!"
-Carrie Smith Libman
"Working with Sarah has strengthened my work and invited curiosity and deeper thinking about the smallest of details. She has introduced me to philosophical structures that I didn't know existed and never thought I'd be able to access. Her kindness, rigour and ability to find connections between so many different ways of thinking and being is amazing to experience. I also find that those drawn to work with her are like minded and my community of artists has grown from working in groups and one on one with Sarah."
