Cash awards are available to artists selected for the juried exhibition, plus inclusion in the exhibition catalog and month-long exhibition.

Art Exposition weekend events will take place Saturday & Sunday, September 17 & 18 from 10 to 4 pm at venues at the Oasis of Mara next to Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters in Twentynine Palms, CA.

National Geographic designated the Mojave Desert as one of the 100 most beautiful places in the world.

EXHIBITION
In recognition of a long-standing tradition between artists and our national parks, Joshua Tree National Park Council for the Arts has created an annual juried exhibition featuring art inspired by or depicting unique aspects of Joshua Tree National Park or its cultural history. The exhibition will hang at the historic 29 Palms Art Gallery, with a special opening reception and awards ceremony.

AWARDS
In addition to the honor of being juried into the Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition and Juried Exhibition, there will be cash awards plus inclusion in the exhibition catalog for artists selected for the show. All artists’ works will be available for sale during the exhibition, and artists may choose to sell additional artwork in a complimentary 10×10 booth space at the weekend art market during the Art Exposition.

JURORS
Individuals involved in the selection process include curators, professional artists, art educators, art administrators, and national park representatives.

THEME
All artwork entries shall depict or be inspired by the unique aspects of Joshua Tree National Park or its cultural history.

ARTISTS
Open to living artists, working in various media, from around the world, age 18 and over.

MEDIA
Original work created by the artist in the last five (5) years in a variety of media, and not previously submitted as an entry for a JTNP Art Exposition’s juried art exhibition. Artwork may be any of the following:

  • Painting: Watercolor, goauche, oil, acrylic.
  • Works on Paper: Drawing, printmaking, computer generated art; chalk, charcoal, pastels, pencil, wax crayons; inks and washes applied by pen or brush.
  • Photography: Color or black and white.
  • Mixed Media: 2- and 3-dimensional works incorporating more than one type of material in their production, including assemblage and collage.
  • Sculpture: Including wood, metal, stone, glass, mosaics, ceramics, fiber, and recycled materials.

ENTRY IMAGES
Submit digital images/photos of the actual artwork(s) to be considered for acceptance into the juried exhibition. An artist may submit up to 3 works. Only one submission (3 pieces) per artist. Submissions should be high quality (300 dpi) jpeg’s, maximum 2 MB per image. Remember to put artist’s LAST NAME and ARTWORK TITLE when saving image files to submit (e.g., Hilton-HiddenValleySunrise.jpg … not image001.jpg). Do not use watermarks, copyright notices, or identification on actual images.

ARTIST BIO
[1] Submit an artist’s biography, an artist’s statement, and a URL link to artist’s website (if applicable) with the images and entry form.

[2] ALSO submit a 150-word bio summary, which will be used for the artist’s profile in the exhibition catalogue, if artist is selected for the juried exhibition. [Remember to put your NAME on all documents, e.g. Hilton-ArtistBio.doc). Do NOT use an apostrophe in the title of the document file name, like “Artist’s_Bio.doc” as this will mess with the e-transmission, and your document(s) may not come through on the online entry form.]

RIGHTS
Copyright and all other rights to the artwork will remain with the artist. JTNP Council for the Arts reserves the right to post juried artists’ images and bios on its website and publish in its exhibition catalogue for the event, and use juried artists’ images for publications, marketing, and promotional purposes. Artist credit will always accompany artist’s image.
