Statement :

My art challenges social norms and their impact on the perception of beauty.

It makes the viewer rethink their idea of gender and stereotypes associated with that. Through my work I want to open the discussion about what restrictions we put on people to look and identify a certain way. "Beauty" as a construct says way more about a society than just " what looks good", it shows what norms are put into place. I want to confront these norms, by showing what diversity looks like and to visualize that beauty and gender actually shouldn't follow any norms or restrictions.

"There will not be a magic day when we wake up and it's now okay to express ourselves publicly. We make that day by doing things publicly until it’s simply the way things are."  (Tammy Baldwin)

RedLipstickMen
Red lipstick as the sign of female empowerment combined with male beauty. The question is: how can the sign for female power be seen as a sign of male weakness? And who decided make up was for women?
Post Gender Beauty
Post Gender Beauty celebrates human beauty by bending gender stereotypes and challenging the viewer to reassess their image of beauty and questioning how the definition of beauty reflects society and how open we really are. This image is of my wonderful friend Rhama, a non-binary musician, born in Argentina, living in Berlin.
