Statement :

In my works, I like to invent whimsical and weird characters and environments with a lot of humor in them. I especially enjoy creating female characters and allowing them to have freedom and fun in their magical environments. While exploring the notion of nostalgia, I love to scroll through old images from my childhood as well as Belarusian lifestyle publications. During this exploration I find a lot of unintentionally humorous and bizarre characters, interior designs, and objects. This can be a lonely dairy refrigerator stranded in the tiny meat market, or the endless supply of middle-aged ladies that love nothing more than to take pictures in front of bushes and buckets of flowers. I like to incorporate these subtle, whimsical moods and objects within my worlds and I am not afraid of exploring the ugliness, because the ugliness of the surrounding was a huge part of my upbringing.

Victory
The illustration that I have created as a part of the essay for the Polyesterzine. It tells about nostalgia, femininity, political oppression of my home country, and escapism.

"The Caterpillar Girl". A still from the short film.
This is a final scene from the short film that I have been working on in 2021, called "The Caterpillar Girl". The film explores the notions of magic, nostalgia and loneliness, as well as highlights the themes of suppressed identity and struggling to be yourself. I reference the story of my own upbringing, as well as the interviews with other Easter-European women who emigrated from my home country of Belarus. Through the short interviews and conversations, I discovered about their current struggles, self-acceptance and trauma, while finding many similarities between them and my own story. The short film explores the topics of stereotypical representation of women in my society and the desire to leave your "cocoon" in order to transform into the truest version of yourself.

Night Dairy Market
This small scene is a magical and nostalgic journey into my past. Collecting images of the 90's Russian markets and personal photos, I created this semi-imaginary childhood experience.
