Statement :

In my abstracts, which are composed of a thick, anxious line covered in paper scraps, there are cropped portraits, figures, and organic forms. Old child drawings, maps, and labels are scattered here and there on a background of crumpled paper. I appreciate imperfections because they contain so much beauty. And when emotions are emphasized by colour, it becomes a deeply private experience.

NuANCE

It is a very personal drawing with fragments of collage. The figure in the middle is very expressive, surrounded by sparkles and energetic colours. The artwork talks about the freedom of self-expression, moments when we feel flashes of energy (to act, live, work). We are also exceptionally sensitive then, we are guided by intuition, and we pay attention to details - nuances.

Bio:

My name is Kasia Słania. I live in Warsaw, Poland. I grew up in a working-class city of Bytom where I was born. Where old German tenement buildings and factories coexisted with a landscape of smokestacks from 11 mines and 2 steel mills.

First, I studied interior design, then painting and workshop graphics.

I received a degree with honours in paintings and graphics from the Krakow
Academy of Fine Arts.

I had a few group and solo exhibitions in Poland and Germany.

I had to, regrettably, take a long break from being a full-time artist.

I train as a graphic designer and I have worked in advertising as an art director during photo shoots for 20 years now.

I've continued to draw. I've only recently started exhibiting my artwork.

I mainly concentrate on large sheets of paper, interlacing a pencil line with a painter's trace of a brush. My collages are primarily made with oil pastels, crayons, and pencils, with the addition of acrylic or layers of other materials.
