What inspires me to create is the challenge of working with monochromatic materials and really stretching them to their limits, creating layers and depth and exacting what to balance on my canvas in terms of colour and structure. I like to use colour as a statement to evoke a mood from my viewer. Mostly I work intuitively layering images with texture and linking them to the environment with wine or imagery. Sometimes it is a figurative gesture that evokes and inspires me to paint it and other times it is a more complex concept I am adding to my work that makes it intriguing. One of my Artist influences is Willem de Kooning, My years and experience as a trained graphic designer interweave their way into my Art. What culminates is a work layered with lifelong knowledge incorporated in balance that is not evident to the naked eye. My Art is expressive, versatile and unique. I am always challenging myself to expand in practise. Paint is to me what a pen is to a writer.
