“I feel art needs to live and breathe amongst people for it to be truly impactful and to make a change.”
Reality Check
In a world where reality is virtual and intelligence is artificial, the boundaries between what is defined as reality and what is truly real, are blurring.
‘The Reality Check’ is a supersize, inflatable installation that attempts to answer that ambiguity, by inviting people to play, interact, enjoy, connect with each other, and be reminded that nothing can beat the authenticity of physical human experiences.
I Hear You
A reminder of the human desire to be heard, this interactive installation is a community gathering feature, inviting public to speak their heart out with stranger or a loved one - aligning with shaping the future of modern living, wellbeing and improving our lives through social interactions.
This piece was launched during The Downtown Design in Dubai.
Room with a view
Traveling is something i really enjoy, it opens up new dimensions, and i really cherish every place that I visit. For me the best way to remember any place is by drawing it, when ever i’m traveling, i carry a lot of sketching material, i like to draw what ever interests
me, it could be the streets, monuments, people,
food etc. I come back and then I try to remember all these experiences and i start drawing them, these illustrations have no geographical accuracy, they are all randomly placed, i just go about drawing them in
the order I visit or see them, thats the reason the perspectives are all wrong the angles are all messed up, but thats what i like about them.
“Room with a view” is a glimpse of my last travel, which was in Greece in 2019.
It is an experience which is meant to go beyond 2 dimensions, my attempt was to create something
that feels immersive and personal.
Bio:
Stripping the world of colors is not an idea generally espoused by artists. And yet, this is exactly what the 42-year-old Dubai-based artist does, he has been carving a niche for himself with his quirky illustrations across wall murals, Installations, and street art. The most intriguing aspect of his work? Not only is it black and white with a dash of color thrown in occasionally, but Kapil also uses elements from his surroundings to establish a connection between his work and the environment it's part of. “I don't try to create art. I see art in things around me.” He believes.
He also goes on to say,
“I feel anything you create should be effortless. If art tries too hard to create an impression, it loses impact. I keep my work honest, simple and minimalist. I am not trying to change the world;
I am merely co-existing," “Also, it's as much a challenge to draw in black and white as it is a pleasure because, black and white being a very bold and striking palette also has a certain amount of limitation". “In terms of the style, im trying to convey a story using minimum lines and forms. I also feel it's a great challenge as an artist to create maximum impact using minimum colours and elements," He adds.
Kapil also believes his work needs to be outdoors, he loves to see his work live in public places and amongst communities, “I feel art needs to live and breathe amongst people for it to be truly impactful and to make a change.”
He also is an art educator; he conducts art and illustration workshops in different cities around the world.
Coming back to his professional career, Kapil is one of the most awarded Creatives in the
Middle East, he works as a Senior Creative Director with Leo Burnett Dubai.
He also was awarded with the Golden Visa by the Dubai Culture in 2021 for this contribution in the field of art and culture.
