Statement :

This selection of pieces are the most representative of myself at this point in my life, they are charged and intensely personal. These works convey the feeling of outsider status, a heretic in the world of social media and oppressive overly simplistic mantras espousing conformity in the guise of individuality. A culture that tends towards condemnation or hate mail if an opinion is not easily
digested. Art is not about making the viewer feel perky, it's about ideas and arousing emotions in an arena that still allows for shades of grey. These works show the dark and light always apparent in the world.

I always work with a palette of either fire or flesh tones and plenty of black with much layering and taking on and off of paint to achieve a textural and deep canvas surface, always trying to communicate a sense of the impenetrable and the obscured, hints of language and strong emotional presence amidst the sturm and drang of life.

Bio:

Hannah studied Art at the University of West of England, before deciding to work as a music photographer in London, where she was regularly published in music magazines, did commissioned portraits for rock bands and covered music festivals. She moved into painting in 2017 seeking greater artistic autonomy and an arena in which to be truly experimental.

With full emotional energy placed upon every canvas, Hannah’s abstract paintings explore the state of restlessness, chaos and chance that life represents, and the challenges of retaining a sense of one’s own capability and autonomy in the face of this.

With a process that is both intuitive and experimental, Hannah is free to explore the act of painting, creating absolutely in the moment.  Each painting is borne from the previous and while it is not her specific purpose to pursue a signature style as she constantly evolves, it is clear to see her personal visual language extending through each canvas with recurring marks, symbols and colour palettes.
