Statement :
People often associate porcelain with fragility, which also evoke a strong sense of our ecological environment. My work primarily explores the intricate relationship between human control and the loss of control over materials.
Quote:
Follow your heart and trust your instincts, open your mind to endless possibilities, and learn from your mistakes and disappointments.
-Lynda Draper

Rebirth
The glass used in this set of works is from the performance glass-blowing department of the National Glass Center in Sunderland, where a large number of broken vases of glass are thrown into the trash can for various reasons. In my opinion, broken glass still has the basic beauty of glass material, transparent and pure, casting glass can help me recycle them well, and give them a new way of existence.
The form of the work uses the image of the mountain in Chinese ink painting, implying the harmonious coexistence between man and nature.

Organic Forms
People often associate porcelain with fragility, which also evokes a strong sense of our ecological environment. My work primarily explores the intricate relationship between human control and the loss of control over materials.
The texture in my work originates from the revealed internal structure after tearing the porcelain, resulting in an uncontrollable visual symbol. The production process is influenced by various factors, minimizing my influence as the maker.
Bio:
Cui Meimei is a Chinese ceramist based in England. After completing her BA at Jingdezhen Ceramic University, she began his MA at the University of Sunderland in the UK in 2018. Now, she is doing PhD at the same university. Working primarily with porcelain, her work embraces the unpredictable visual language of porcelain in the making process to explore the importance of concepts such as mistake, imperfection, and chance. Through the study of these contents, she aims to break the inherent making and thinking patterns that are oriented by purpose, motivation, and rules.
