Statement :

"Life is a theatre of pain, and we're all puppets" - Samo Shalaby

This project is a fine art painting I’ve named “Figurative Theatre”. My goal was to visualize a vision I once had while I was sketching, and bringing it to life through creating an entrance into my mind. A window to a multidimensional constantly confronting and overflowing universe of characters and worlds that reflect various personal narratives intertwined into one dichotomous overwhelming view. The theatre acts as a balancing gateway to both energies of dark and light, good and evil. The point of the piece is to blur all lines, and take you on a trip. The characters each represent allegorical emotions or metaphorical personifications of my inner savior and saboteurs. Creating this piece was a therapy for me, a way to beautify my past in my own way and put it to rest. To show my stories trough symbolism rather than telling them. The sides are portals into more worlds leading to future paintings, telling unspoken stories. This is the first of many in my series "Figurative Theatre". Each will have (as this one) its own custom designed and painted frame, to enhance the viewing experience, narrative and overall vision. The painting represents my past and its pain, the frame represents my future and the unknown ahead.

Bio:

I am an Egyptian / Palestinian Fine Artist. My skills lie in visual styles that are interpretable through multiple mediums, my favorites being Painting and Photography. I would describe my style as “from future and past, otherworldly and vast”. I like to mix various aesthetics and motifs from different centuries to create timeless worlds. Blurring lines between gender, culture, couture, and identity, I like to embed dichotomous narratives that lurk behind beautiful facades. Whether on camera or canvas, styling, art direction, and story telling are crucial elements for my process. My aim is to use my work to create a beautiful world for the wild and wonderful, where all are welcome.
