Statement : 

I love the immediacy of scratchboard and the fact that it is a very forgiving medium. Working quickly with a scalpel and pen, the emphasis is on atmosphere rather than precise accuracy. Subjects can range from the mythological to the mechanical.

Bio: 

William was born in Beckenham, Greater London in 1962. After graduating from Ravensbourne College of Art & Design with a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design he freelanced as an illustrator and designer in New York City for four years for clients such as Conran's, Liz Claiborne Inc, the New York Times and the New York Transit Authority.

Back in the UK, William worked on a wide variety of projects from mural painting and portraits in oils to book illustration and design using Adobe software. Clients included Marks & Spencer, the Body Shop, The Independent and Conran Habitat. In recent years he has created historical interpretation signs and exhibition panels for the National Trust and packaging illustration and coin designs for the Royal Mint. William currently lives and works in St Leonards-On-Sea near Hastings.
