Statement :

-Duality of womxn-

Womxn exist in societies where their identities are predetermined or projected onto them, according to classifications such as race, gender, body type and religion.

Therefore, a womxn exists in duality. She has her own private knowledge of self and then there are societies perceptions her. My work looks to challenge those thresholds in search of the true self.

Bio:

Chewela was born in Gaborone, Botswana and currently live in London, UK. Initially she used art as a form of self- therapy. Drawing and painting self- portraits gave her the opportunity to introspect, gain validation for her emotions and a sense of self-worth.

She only started sharing her art recently and hopes to build a portfolio of work that is able to communicate womxns experiences. Her art intends to rise above the abuse and violence that womxn experience daily existing in societies that conditions them to hate themselves and their bodies.
