OPEN THEME | CALL FOR ENTRIES | AN INTERNATIONAL JURIED PHOTO EXHIBITION
Entry Deadline | June 30TH, 2022
Notice of Acceptance | July 12TH, 2022
Exhibition Dates | Aug 27TH – Sept 10TH
Theme: Open Theme | Juror: Ann Jastrab
To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting… It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.
- Elliott Erwitt -
Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art of any genre and any subject matter that represents the artist’s endeavor to reveal through the photographic process a personal declaration of visual significance - be it a celebration of pure aesthetic formalism, of humor or conflict - of fiction or fact - or any other literal or ephemeral lens-based investigation. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.
JUROR | ANN JASTRAB
Ann Jastrab, Executive Director for The Center for Photographic Art, is a champion of photographic artists. After earning her MFA in photography at the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1995, she joined the resident faculty at the Maine Photographic Workshops and taught there for nearly a decade in both their year-round program and their intensive summer workshops. Prior to taking the position of executive director of CPA, she curated many exhibitions for RayKo during her tenure as gallery director - while also jurying, curating, and organizing numerous exhibitions for other national and international venues outside of the San Francisco Bay Area. She has served on numerous boards and fundraising committees and has been thrilled to bring her talents, passion, and leadership skills to The Center for Photographic Arts. Besides being a curator and an educator, Ann is a writer and editor and she is also a fine art photographer who still carries around a wooden view camera…and a metal one too.

ANIMAL BEINGS | OPEN CALL | PRAXIS DIRECTORS GALLERY
Entry Deadline | June 15TH, 2022
Notice of Acceptance | June 23RD, 2022
Exhibition Dates | July 16TH – 30TH, 2022
Theme: Animal Beings | Guest Curator: Anne Berry
This exhibition is a celebration of the astonishing beauty and diversity found in the animal world. Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic works that showcase animals’ inner beauty, strength, character, resiliency, and wisdom. Compassionate images of companion animals, wild animals, farm animals, insects, and fish are all heartily welcomed.
Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic works that show us the very best of your furry, scaly, feathery photographs! Images that showcase violence or inhumane treatment will not be considered. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional processes, and digital post-production are all welcome for submission.
GUEST CURATOR: ANNE BERRY
Anne Berry is internationally recognized for her ability to create lyrical, intimate portraits of animals. Since 2010 she has traveled to small zoos in Europe to visit and photograph primates. Her portraits reveal the unique personality of each of these animals. Jane Goodall describes the photographs as “wonderful, very moving, should melt a few hearts.” This project culminated in a folio published by 21st Editions, which is held in museum and library special collections, including The National Gallery of Art. Berry published Behind Glass, 2021 to make the project accessible to a wider audience. It is Berry”s goal to motivate people to feel compassion for primates and an obligation to protect them. Most of the primates she photographs qualify as endangered, and all of them are facing stress from loss of habitat and human activity. The plight of primates on earth is urgent; our indifference will condemn them to extinction, and we will follow. These photographs provide a voice for primates, and they are asking for help.

Call for submission: Visual Art, photography, poetry, and writing, for a book on collective rebellion.
In the ongoing fight for power among world leaders, the innocent bloodshed of victims, and the outstanding resilience and unity people have shown, we bring you:
An initiative supporting inspiring strong-hearted individuals, who are an example of how wartime/uprising affects place, structure, land, culture, and individuals.
Governments see people who speak up as mutants, anarchists, and disobedient... and in turn, those same governments inflict disastrous mutations upon their people. This is a chance to give a voice to the rebellion against corrupted and abusive political powers, it is a search into how the psychology of humans changes when their environment, their rights, and their reality, are invaded and they have to stand up for it. Everything becomes meaningless except their unified resilience.
A chance for everyone to share their art or poetry/writings, revolving around political injustice, warfare, oppression, freedom, rebellion, changes, mutiny, and revolutions.
The invasion that occurred in Ukraine brought a humanitarian crisis to light that has been seen all around the world. In the face of all of it we encourage people to express, revolt, and share the fire they have inside of them, to speak up and freely make their voices heard. This project is a book made up of art and poetry by the people, for the people. A collective artistic revolution.
All profits from this book will be fully donated to support and aid charities working in Ukraine.

TRANSIENCE | OPEN CALL | PRAXIS DIRECTORS GALLERY
Entry Deadline | Mar 15th, 2022
Notice of Acceptance | Mar 23rd, 2022
Exhibition Dates | April 16th – 30th 2022
Theme: Transience | Guest Curator: Aline Smithson
The last two years have been profound in our reconsiderations of self. The pandemic has transformed the way we behave, has affected our psyches, and made us examine what is most important in our lives. We discovered that everything is fleeting and temporary, ever changing, moving, and evolving. Transience comes in many forms and awareness of the transience of all things heightens appreciation of their beauty and evokes a gentle sadness at their passing.
Praxis Gallery seeks the submission of photographic art that speaks to the transitory nature of life--from flora and fauna, from objects left behind after a loved ones passing, to memories and loss. All genres, capture types, black & white and color, traditional and non-traditional photographic and digital post-production processes are welcome for submission.
Guest Curator | Aline Smithson
Aline Smithson is a Los Angeles based visual artist, editor, and educator. She is the Founder and Editor- in-Chief of Lenscratch, a daily journal on photography that has offered exposure and opportunities for thousands of photographic artists since 2007. She has curated and juried exhibitions for a number of galleries, organizations, and publications, including Review Santa Fe, Critical Mass, Flash Forward, and the Griffin Museum. In addition, she is a reviewer and educator at many photo festivals across the United States.
