Open Call POLDRA: Site-specific Sculpture

Eligibility:

POLDRA - Public Sculpture Project Viseu envisions to develop contemporary public art/art in public space proposals – with a significant focus on sculpture – created for selected spaces (site-specific) reinventing and reinterpreting them; while encouraging interactions between the visitors and the sites themselves. Through this dynamic, the work of art will be the kick starter of a relation that it is hoped can exist beyond the act of looking.

We've been doing so for the past two years by exhibiting the works of Neeraj Bhatia (Canada, Pedro Pires (Angola), Elisa Balmaceda (Chile), Natalia Bezerra & Kaitlin Ferguson (UK), Steven Barich (USA), Cristina Ataíde, Miguel Palma and Liliana Velho (Portugal).

In 2020 we're seeking to extend an open sky, public art circuit, established in the woods of Fontelo, a historic park in Viseu, Portugal. With this purpose, we're opening a call looking for site-specific artwork proposals. This is primarily addressed to visual artists who work in the fields of installation, painting, sculpture and media art. Applications from artists groups are welcome. Submissions are free but they must be specifically conceived for the Fontelo. The selected proposals will have a budget of 3000€ for the author's fee and production costs.

JAMAICA FLUX 5TH EDITION CALL FOR NEW YORK ARTISTS

Share

Country:

Eligibility:

Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) is now accepting submissions through March 28, 2020 for Jamaica Flux: Workspaces & Windows 2021 . JCAL seeks proposals from artists to research the neighborhood of Jamaica, Queens, in 2020 for the presentation, and possible creation, of new, site-specific, public art projects that engage the local community in 2021.

Not confined by gallery walls, Jamaica Flux is a contemporary public art project in which visual and performance art are displayed at a variety of locations along Jamaica Avenue in Queens, NY, including public and private open spaces and storefronts. With the intent to build equity and expand cultural inclusion throughout Southeast Queens, Jamaica Fluxstrives to commission and present art that involves the local community and creates changes in behavior and policy while also documenting the developments and contradictions that arise in the process.

First conceived in 2002 as a pilot program addressing the isolation of the art gallery from the community, Jamaica Flux has evolved with the community in every iteration to reflect the pressing issues of the times and to advocate for social change through the arts. Now in its 5th iteration, Jamaica Flux: Workspaces & Windows 2021 is dedicated to advancing research and visual and performative actions that foster social change, critical public discourse on advocacy, policy change, economic growth, collective civic action, and community engagement. The project aims to bring artists, local residents, curators, scholars, community leaders, developers, and politicians together to catalyze the transformative power of the visual arts, building on the cultural legacy of Jamaica while addressing the challenges of a quickly growing local economy.

This is an exciting time for Downtown Jamaica, and we believe this iteration of Jamaica Fluxis timely to document the rapid changing neighborhood and to be a platform for artists to voice concerns and advocate ideas. Artists living in New York City are eligible to apply, and all media is welcomed.

Prizes:

Artists will receive $500 for their research that involves dialogue and collaboration with local businesses, sites, and/or social organizations around Jamaica Avenue. Research outputs (drawings, renderings, photographs, video, text, interviews, maquettes, mark-ups et. al) will be exhibited in the Miller Gallery at the Jamaica Arts Center, from May 14 through July 10th 2021.

Depending on available funding, the artists will receive additional support of up to $2,500 to materialize their visions of creating new, site-specific, public artworks, and present their project to the public in the physical site proposed, along with related programming in 2021. A published print catalog will be produced and distributed both on- and offline following the exhibition in 2021.
