NY State Choreographers Initiative

NY State Choreographers Initiative (NYSCI), a program of the NYS DanceForce in partnership with the New York State Council of the Arts, awards annual grants to support choreographers in developing their skills by providing them with resources to advance their creative practice. 

This program supports professional development for choreographers in 55 out of the 62 counties of New York, working in all dance genres. Eligible regions are Western NY, Central NY, Capitol District/North Country, and Hudson Valley/Long Island. Artists based in the 5 boroughs of NYC, Rockland, and Westchester Counties ARE NOT eligible.

The application portal opens on October 1, 2024, at danceforce.org. Deadline for proposals: December 7, 2024, 11:59pm EST.

Small Plates Choreography Festival, Newburgh, NY

CALL FOR DANCE MAKERS 

Applications are open for Small Plates Choreography Festival, a series of two curated dance performances to be presented on November 2, 2024 at 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Chapman Steamer Arts located in the vibrant artistic community of Newburgh, NY. 

Programming: Solo, duet, and trio dance works of any dance genre up to 15 minutes in length will be considered for inclusion in both performances. 4-8 artists will be chosen to participate, and both performances will be programmed with the same artists. Due to the capacity of the space, we must limit the total number of performers.

Dance Residency: Final Tuning - Apply Now!

The Final Tuning dance residency provides two choreographers or dance companies with the time, space, and resources to advance an already developed work to the next stage.

The selected companies will receive access to a Banff Centre dance studio for 3 weeks. In the first week with support of our Director of Dance, Alejandro Ronceria and visiting Faculty, you will work on adjusting and solidifying the proposed project in the studio. During the second and third weeks, artists will have access to our newly renovated mainstage, the Jenny Belzberg Theatre, to begin implementing technical elements into the projects and work with our production teams.

To conclude the residency you will present a 60 minute work or work-in-progress to the public.

Banff Centre | Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award 2022

Overview
The biennial Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award, at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, is open to any emerging Canadian dance choreographer or company demonstrating exceptional talent. We are seeking new voices, ideas, and approaches to professional dance that can be supported through the award.

Established in 1978 by the Clifford E. Lee Foundation to encourage the development of Canadian choreographers. Nominees for the Clifford E. Lee Choreography Award will submit a proposal for a work that explores a contemporary approach to dance through any style. The work should be full-length, and travel to Banff with a company of no more than 15, including designers and production team members.
