"Identity in Culture"

Our identities are enlightened and influenced by a surfeit of factors. Social media, politics, technology, and social reform, among so many other attributes, make up various elements of each of our idiosyncratic and multifaceted selves. How have such factors influenced your selfhood? Why did this affect you in the way it did? What is something that had a more profound effect on yourself looking back on your journey than you realized? How have the arts affected, influenced, or encouraged your developing self-identity?

The arts have always been a place where individualism and the pursuit of finding oneself are valued. Reflecting on this, ‘Identity in Culture’ intends to provoke questions of what aspects of society greatly influence the self through various forms of art expressions and mediums.

We are looking for National and International artists to submit works for the upcoming "Identity in Culture". Emerging and mid-career artists are invited to submit their 2-d work and be considered to join our strong artistic community by exhibiting in our 360-degree 3-D gallery at the Milostka Center for Exhibitions.

Culturally Arts Collective is a nonprofit organization for arts education, outreach, and exhibitions based in the United States. We strive to promote a culture of artistic innovation upholding the academic integrity of the arts, uplifting contemporary expression, and challenging the status quo.

The mirror of Venus - Art Woman 2023

Primo Piano LivinGallery

has the pleasure of presenting the contemporary art exhibition

(The reflection of us and the world between truth and fiction)

curated by Dores Sacquegna

from 25 February to 8 March 2023

THE SHOW - Each of us is led to create their own reality, the external world we live in is a mirror in which the solid form of our image and at the same time our Shadow is reflected. We are called to learn to "see", to develop an internal oblique gaze aimed at understanding emotions, events, processes, connections, to stimulate the evolution of the reality of the world, created in our image and likeness.

We have a daily relationship with the mirror, a very intimate relationship, sometimes obsessive, sometimes detached. But this is not a story of mirrors in art. Rather, it is the story that the mirror would tell if only it knew how to speak, the images of what it sees reflected on its surface, the vanity and malice of the goddesses, the ecstasy of the fragile Narcissus, the confident gaze of the painter or photographer who portrays him. itself, the dilated and duplicated rooms in the places of the imagination.

The exhibition aims to focus its attention on the reflection of us and the world around us, between truth and fiction.  Artists who work with all mediums of expression are welcome. This is the 25th edition of art woman, also open to male artists.

VENUE - The exhibition is set up in the Renaissance venue of the Palmieri Foundation in Lecce, in the old city.

River of Self

At the moment, civilians are increasingly being arrested and prosecuted in Afghanistan as the Taliban takes control. These unfounded arrests are a violation of human rights and are asymmetrically impacting queer people and wxmen in the country. Though 16,500 people have sought refuge in the UK since August, this is just the beginning of their journey towards settled status. As a response to this situation, we hope to curate an exhibition, with your assistance, to raise funds for the Islington centre that helps refugees and migrants. The funds we raise through this art exhibition will provide resources and support for displaced Afghan refugees in the UK.

We hope to not only make a difference in the lives of those who will be directly impacted by our fundraiser but make a positive contribution to the art world through showcasing the works of and providing compensation to upcoming artists, from queer and marginalised backgrounds

Our desire is to include around 20 artists in exhibition, prioritising BIPOC and queer femme artists, in hopes of platforming marginalised creatives who work and exist in adjacent spaces to our cause.  Ranging from photography, prints, paintings to sculptures and video art we aim to create a curated multisensory experience. An escapist fantasy. A liberated utopian plane in which people of all race, orientation and creed are free to wholly express and embody their true selves. The works exhibited are going to explore the concept of identity, demonstrating the complexity, creativity and beauty of human nature. Self-expression is still unfortunately a luxury unimaginable to so many. A "River of Self" is an exploration of how our identity blossoms even in the face of adversity and how struggle and resilience shape it.

The word “canvas” was used for the first time in Italy in the 14th century and it has become the most common support medium for oil painting, replacing wooden panels. During the centuries, the canvas’ meaning has changed, starting from paintings, through the photographic and cinematographic film, exploring the human body, to the digital world. Canvas is the creatives’ common ground, on which they can express themselves. We invite all the artists to share their personal artistic research through any kind of media, from painting to sculptures and installation, from photography to video art and live performance.

Artists interested in taking part in our shows are free to be sponsored and supported by institutions, organizations, governments, and their representatives; the logos of their sponsors will be included in all the communication (digital and print) of the events.

Deadline for applications is February 17, 2022 (11.59 PM of your local time)
