STILLLIFE Art Fair Open Call

When the pandemic hit, the everyday was hidden under blankets, forming silhouettes of normality waiting to be revealed. After a long period of restraints, STILLLIFE feels the rebirth of an explosive energy bursting with expression. STILLLIFE promotes the creation of a dynamic community through immersive art fairs that redefine the lifeless conventional white box displays. We are a movement to celebrate the extraordinary of everyday life in everyone's life.

Our first art fair will debut in SoHo, NYC from May 28th to 30th, 2022, combining interactive displays with the vibrancy of New York City.

We understand the difficulties young artists and institutions face in exhibiting and selling their work. Therefore, we want to lower the entry barrier for all of our participating artist vendors. To join our growing list of artist vendors, please fill out our application form:

We will also be hosting an ongoing Open Call where we will actively engage the creative mind and connect communities through generative activities.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out as we continue sharing what STILLLIFE is all about.

Hope to see you soon at STILLLIFE!

2022 Alternate Realities Commission

Open call for applications to the 2022 Sheffield DocFest Alternate Realities Commission

Up to £15k funding, curatorial, production and marketing support is available for an artist or collective to create/complete a new, non-fiction digital project. The succesful proposal will exhibit at Site Gallery during Sheffield DocFest 2022 (23-28 June).

This open call is for artists who work in digital non-fiction, create immersive experiences or experiment with new technologies. We encourage applications from debut, emerging and established artists and collectives from the UK and internationally.

Who can we support?

  • We welcome applications from artists based in the UK and internationally
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to innovation in digital storytelling in the realm of non-fiction
  • Evidence of a strong body of artistic work, including a proven track record of recent work, projects, exhibitions, publishing, and/or commissions is desirable, but not essential as this is completion funding
  • The panel is open to projects that may have already started or are in production, providing we are made aware of any other partners or funding bodies involved in the project
  • It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to secure clearance from the copyright holders of any copyrighted materials included within the submitted projects. Sheffield DocFest will not be held responsible for the unauthorised inclusion of any copyrighted materials within or related to the submitted application.

The commission is made possible with thanks to the generous support of Arts Council England and Site Gallery.

Prize Summary:
Up to £15k complete funding for an artist or collective from anywhere around the world
Prizes Details:

How can we support you?

The selected proposal will be awarded up to £15,000 to cover artist fees, production costs and expenses. Travel (including international flights) and accommodation for the selected artist(s) to install their work and participate in our Alternate Realities programme at the Festival will come from this fund.

The selected winner cannot use the funding to build a marketing campaign for an existing work. Both Sheffield DocFest and Site Gallery will provide marketing support and expertise to promote the Commissioned work.

We will support display costs through securing the venue and basic AV equipment (subject to technical requirements) and we will also provide the technical support needed to exhibit the work as part of the festival. Sheffield DocFest will act as Executive Producer and we will offer curatorial and production support in the delivery and marketing of the commission.

The R.E.A.L.M.S. institute

Wicked Amusements is calling all visual and installation artists to participate in their newest project, The REALMS Institute - an immersive art and recreation experience with rotating exhibits/adventures that will be part of Malden’s nascent Gaming District.

Our initial installment will be an interpretation of the mini-golf model, so we are looking for proposals with amazing designs and sculptural elements that can serve either as full golf holes themselves or as part of the broader scenic ambience. Creators with experience working in large scale and kinetics are particularly encouraged to respond.

Proposals will be accepted on a bid/commision basis, so you have a hand in determining your compensation.

Some broader information follows below, but if your curiosity is piqued, contact Jason Ries, Project Manager at info@wickedamusements (subject: REALMS proposal) asap.

Include CV and any digital portfolio access to give us a feel of your work.

If you have an idea in mind, you can suggest it in the body of the message but you are also welcome to simply express general interest at this time.

We will then reach out to schedule Open Shop info sessions at our Woburn production facility, to be held in early August.  These meetings will be the best opportunity to have more detailed conversations about the scope, timeline and submission process.

Regardless of the ongoing exhibit, visitors to “The Institute” will immediately be projected into a world of pulp pseudo-science and tongue-in-cheek odes to the age of atomic experimentation.  If you can imagine a mashup of the look of Bioshock and the tone of Portal squeezed through the lens of Buckaroo Banzai, you’re on the right track.

Within that framework, we are open to a full range of theming ideas, with a preference for originality and playfulness in design.

Media may include (but is not limited to) metals, video, textiles, and automation (pneumatics, electronics). Real-world construction requirements and ability to endure several months of play will be a consideration. However, if we love your concept, we may be able to work with you to design it into a realistically playable hole

While submissions from creatives in the Boston metro area will receive preference, we are open to inquiries from anywhere and any background (i.e. scenic designers, architects, electrical engineers, mini golf lovers, video artists, etc.).  Collaborations are welcome and there is no limit to submissions, though each design proposal requires a separate submission.
