Making Our History: Artists Render Lincoln’s Legacy

The 2021 University of Illinois Presidential Initiative in the Arts and Humanities project, Making Our History: Artists Render Lincoln’s Legacy, is now inviting applications. The deadline for receipt of applications is September 20, 2021

The project will bring together 20 Illinois artists to work with each other and with faculty and staff from the University of Illinois Springfield’s Center for Lincoln Studies. The artists selected for the residency will be required to meet virtually on seven occasions over the academic year to learn about Lincoln and to discuss their artwork with the other artists and with UIS art and history faculty.  The artists’ goal will be to make art illuminating Lincoln’s legacy. Each artist will be compensated $2500 for one artwork, to be delivered to Springfield by June 30, 2022. The artworks will be exhibited at three different Springfield locations in August and September 2022, and subsequently a permanent digital exhibit of the art will be created and hosted on the Center for Lincoln Studies webpage.
