"REALITY & ART"Call for Entries Juried Exhibition

Country:

City:

Eligibility:

Reality, Realism, Representation. Art is often about searching for and expressing reality, whether literally or conceptually. We are seeking works that are representational in both the traditional sense of being compelled to express what you see and reality as a conceptual sense of using the contemporary current environment as a reference. This environment of shifting and contradicting truths, denial of science, proliferation of ‘alternative facts,’ and manipulations of imagery makes understanding reality and truth an illusive undertaking. The artist’s striving to express and understand reality becomes more complicated with this shifting appropriation of what is mere perception and what is reality.

Juried by Danielle Andress, an assistant professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Fiber and Materials Studies Department.

MASH-UP, 21 May - 31 May 2020, in Berlin, Germany, dives into the methodology of collage from a multitude of vantage points. The essence of collage expands the boundaries of what is possible by merging materials to create new meaning. MASH-UP, the 10 day Spring Session, intensively explores the broader concepts around collage as a blueprint for thinking, making and dialoguing about artistic practice. MASH-UP, a multi-sensory experience, brings a plethora of voices to the discussion around knowledge gathering and idea generation. The structure of MASH-UP includes conversations with multiple art intermediaries, in addition to workshopping with a DJ, a chef, a small Berlin press that uses Risograph, in addition to a dancer/choreographer. All of our contributors use the strategy of collage at the heart of their practice.

Contributing Berlin-based artists and curators include: Monika Michalko, Power Ekroth, Dorothea von Hantelmann, Emma Howes, Adrian Schiesser, April Gertler, Hannah Goldstein & Katja Haustein, Mark Emblem, Azar Pajuhandeh, Andrew Burford, Louis Cameron, Marco Montiel-Soto, Penthaus für schöne Formate, DJ Femalemacho, The Onion Project, and Galerie Dorothée Nilsson, in addition to other artists and curators.

Call for artists: Expanded Drawing

Share

Eligibility:

The Concept

AIR Gallery, Altrincham, invites establishing and emerging artists of all disciplines to consider and submit artworks centered around what drawing is today.

Drawing has always been used as a tool to slow down and observe. Challenging the pre-conceptions of a drawing in contemporary art. Everything has to begin somewhere and even with a mark, can drawing expand out both physically between and across mediums? Is drawing more than just marks on a page? Is the act/action of drawing just as important? How can we expand the notions of drawing through painting, sculpture, performance and social contexts?

We are looking for drawing based practices or works that center around these questions. Considering the ideas of Expanding drawing, what can and cannot be a drawing today in both 2D and 3D contexts. The show aims to entice conversation and narrative of drawing on and off the page in creative and imaginative ideas into the gallery space where the space between thoughts and the physical gesture question drawings role today.
