kNOwBOX dance Film Festival 2024 Open Call

In its 6th year as an independent international film festival, the
mission for the NBFF is to curate dance films that explore an
innovative approach to “challenging the possibilities of what dance
can look like in video form”.

Dance Films 1-10 minutes
A dance-related film 1-10 minutes. A dance film (Videodance, Dance for
Camera, Screendance, etc) is a dance-related film that challenges the
possibilities of what dance can look like in video form. Films are
created specifically for the screen, including shorts, narrative,
fiction, experimental, animation, multicultural, multi-genre, and
documentary films.

Frame Rush 2023

Frame Rush, London’s annual screendance festival, returns to The Place for its 5th edition this spring.

The festival is organized by the postgraduate students of screendance, currently the only Master’s program of its kind in the world. As a cohort, we are interested in exploring the boundaries of movement-focused filmmaking.

Frame Rush welcomes dance films from every part of the globe, in any genre, from documentary, comedy, animation, narrative or experimental. We strive to make the event as inclusive as possible, and actively welcome films from all backgrounds and communities.

Experimental Series - Salt Lake City Call for Entires

Experimental Series - Salt Lake City (EXPS/SLC) is an experimental video/film series hosted by the Union Theatre at the University of Utah. EXPS/SLC is hosted through the School of Dance at the University of Utah. We encourage especially women, queer, non-binary, and disabled creators whose work is rooted in experimental approaches addressing movement, dance, choreography, and/or the body to apply. Please apply if your film incorporates movement or the body, but would not typically be considered "dance on camera".

What you get

Frame Rush 2022

Frame Rush, the annual screendance event, takes place in May 2022 at The Place for a live evening of screenings.

 Focusing on movement and sound, this event explores the definition of the continuously emerging genre of screendance as an immersive sensory experience. Our aim is to bring together new audiences to watch and discuss works from around the world. Particularly in the times of the COVID-19 pandemic, screendance is becoming more and more relevant.

Cinedanza, screendance contest and festival

Born in 2019, Cinedanza is the first screendance international contest in Emilia Romagna.

Cinedanza Festival wants to

  • promote screendance in Italy through a competition that collects the news of national and international production;
  • give the opportunity to artists, videomakers and dancers to show their work in comparison with that of artists from all over the world;
  • develop new forms of dissemination and training of screendance and performing arts through seminars, workshops and meetings open to non-specialists;
  • promote forms of creative and original hybridization between performing arts, cinema and visual arts.
