As theories of visual culture demonstrate, since ancient times the iconographic image has been a very important form of transmission and diffusion of human knowledge.

Starting from the late Victorian period, photography became a fundamental medium for scientific research, fully responding to the need to catalog and bear witness to inquiries into the natural world. Being photography considered a means that offers an objective vision of reality, when combined with data and texts, it is welcomed by the academic environment as an ideal means for the documentary transmission of scientific results.

Still Life

Still Life invites artists to present their formal and conceptual notions of the modern day still life. Artists who make still lifes create suggestive worlds, placing clues about their lives and their often invented, absent characters into their compositions.

The Forgotten

The Forgotten, people, places and belongings that once mattered, now unremembered, out of mind, left behind.
Items once significant to someone, personal items, buildings, object, person, a place that once had the importance to another, the possibilities are all around us.

Our juror for Forgotten is Paula Tognarelli. Paula Tognarelli recently retired as the Executive Director of the Griffin Museum of Photography for 20 years, producing on average 54 exhibitions a year at the museum. She frequently reviewed at national and local portfolio events and jumpstarted hundreds of photographers’ careers.
