We're looking for writing and artwork of any format or medium that is shaped by your imagination. We believe experience-based perspectives, reflections, observations and personal stories deserve to be heard in any shape of art!

If you want your work to be presented, we need your works before going live and presenting any of your article, statement, interview and/or artworks (5 or 6 pieces) to be sent to us between  21.6.2022 and 31.07.2022.

You are welcome to submit works in any medium: painting, drawing, writing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, textile, installation, mixed media, digital, film (only jpg + link to video) etc. All visual art mediums are welcome.

Visual Art Guidelines :

We will accept art in JPEG, PNG or TIFF formats.

Written Guidelines :

We accept submissions in DOC, DOCX, and RTF formats.

Computational Writing 2022 | In-Person

Overview

The Computational Writing residency will allow writers to explore working at the intersection of computing and literary art, not only by using pre-developed tools but also by directly undertaking programming. The residency will consider how computation can be means for reflecting on one’s own writing process as well as for processing anything from small, curated collections of words to large text corpora.

This self-directed residency offers the opportunity to work away from the constraints of everyday life. Delve deep into your creative project and take advantage of the artistic community of your peers around you. The program provides opportunities for consultations with mentors, and optional group sessions led by guest mentors that allow writers to explore literary techniques, aspects, and devices that you may find useful in your practice.

You may also sign up for additional walks and day trips within Banff National Park as well as campus-wide activities organized by our Participant Resources team.

This flexible program allows you to choose the amount of support you are looking for. All program elements are optional.

What does the program offer?

Overview
This 7-day online residency provides thematic teaching from faculty members, Q&A sessions and one-on-one workshopping. Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their writing across genre. 

What does the program offer?
This program session will allow writers across genre to explore craft, voice and workshop their manuscripts with exceptional faculty Farzana Doctor and Orlando White. Faculty will share their own work, present talks and field questions about craft, and work with writers to hone their writing in progress. The session will open with longer faculty talks and Q&A sessions, followed by 5 days of short one-on-one meetings, and then a closing reflective session.

Who should apply? 
Writers in all creative genres are invited to apply. The program is designed for emerging and established writers with a proven publication record. 

We welcome writers from all backgrounds, gender identities and expressions.

Overview
This 7-day online residency provides thematic teaching from faculty members, Q&A sessions and one-on-one workshopping. Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their writing across genre. 

What does the program offer?
This 7-day session will allow writers across genre to explore craft, voice and workshop their manuscripts with exceptional faculty Kaie Kellough and Jordan Abel. Faculty will share their own work, present talks and field questions about craft, and work with writers to hone their writing in progress. The session will open with longer intense workshops followed by 5 days of short one-on-one meetings, and then a closing reflective session. 

We are pleased to offer writers working in French the opportunity to apply and be adjudicated for this program in French. Faculty Kaie Kellough will be available during the residency to work with French manuscripts and offer mentorship in French. Please note, however, that our programs and official Banff Centre administration are conducted in English.
