Computational Writing 2022 | In-Person

Overview

The Computational Writing residency will allow writers to explore working at the intersection of computing and literary art, not only by using pre-developed tools but also by directly undertaking programming. The residency will consider how computation can be means for reflecting on one’s own writing process as well as for processing anything from small, curated collections of words to large text corpora.

Spring Writers Retreat 2022 | In-Person

Overview
The Spring Writers Retreat is a self-directed program that offers time and space for writers to retreat, reconnect, and re-energize their writing practice. In addition to a single room, a personal studio space to work from is provided and available 24 hours a day, and you will be surrounded by a community of artistic peers. 

Sitka Center / Artist at Sea

The Artist at Sea Residency provides the opportunity for a visual artist, writer or musician to spend 14 days on an oceanic research vessel interacting with a scientific team gathering data on the size structure and composition of zooplankton in marine food webs off of the Oregon and Washington coasts.

The next research trip is scheduled for Feb 28- March 13, 2022. The ship will be loaded on Feb 27 with an anticipated departure date of Feb 28. The ship will return on March 13  and be unloaded on March 14 . The selected artist must be available from Feb 27- March 14, 2022.  The 2 week (optional) residency at Sitka will follow after from March 14 - March 28, 2022.

Indigenous Arts | Write Over Here - Fall 2021

Overview
This 3-week self-directed Indigenous Arts residency will invite writers to engage in an active writing program, both in their community and on the Banff Centre campus. Online gatherings during the community phase will be scheduled to bring everyone together to connect and share.

Participants will be able to choose to participate either online from their community or on campus for the first two weeks.  The final week will see all participants meeting on campus to share readings and have deeper discussions of their process. Faculty will engage all writers throughout their time, as needed and scheduled, while this space allows for writers to put the time aside in their own capacity but still engage in their writing practice.

Literary Arts | Fall Writers Session 2021 Online

Overview
This 7-day online residency provides thematic teaching from faculty members, Q&A sessions and one-on-one workshopping. Instructors will discuss ideas, experiences, and obstacles that participants may be encountering with their writing across genre. 

Literary Arts | Emerging Writers Intensive Online 2021

Overview
This workshop-based online program focuses on providing structured support for new fiction writers wanting to improve their writing skills.
